Danas

Danas was set up in 1997 by a group of journalists from the Nasa Broba daily newspaper as an independent daily newspaper with a distinctly liberal and pro-European orientation. Although with low circulation numbers, Danas speaks mostly to the urban and educated population. The newspaper was often critical of the Milosevic regime and forced to pay heavy fines in the period 1998-2000 under repressive media laws in existence at the time. Post-2000 it has maintained its independent, liberal and pro-European orientation. Since 2012, and particularly 2016, it has come under increasing pressure because of its independent editorial line, particularly via reported pressure on advertisers to cease advertising with the newspaper. Dan Graf, the company which owns the newspaper, is also engaged in book publishing.

Financial data is only available for Dan Graf, the company which owns Danas, as a whole, rather than for the newspaper itself. However, the Notes to the Financial Report for 2015 also include a note on advertising revenues, which can only refer to the newspaper, given that the company's only other known activity is book publishing. The first issue of Danas came out in June 1997, although the company which owns it, Dan Graf Ltd, was founded in 1995.
